Terra Tangra - winery

Terra Tangra came on the international wine scene several years ago and quickly gained recognition for its powerful yet elegant style both on the nose and on the palate. It has won numerous prestigious awards from International competitions, setting a new landmark in modern Bulgarian wine making.

The vineyards spread over an area of 350ha – certified for biological grape production- are situated on the slopes of the Sakar Mountain, not far from the Turkish border, within the area of the village of Balgarin. Our wines are produced from selected red and white grape varieties in short series depending on the vintage.

The basic grape varieties are:

  • Red: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon,
  • Syrah, Cabernet Franc and the local varieties Mavrud, Rubin and Melnik
  • White: Chardonnay, Traminer and Semillon.
  • Terra tangra is in possession of a private farm Specialized in the production of high quality certified vine plants. This guarantees the presence of the most significant ingredient of the “big” wine – THE GRAPE.


Wine making:

Maturity is close I y monitored in each plot from the beginning of August. A harvest calendar is determined the week before the harvest and amended daily to ensure each plot is harvested at full maturityand under optimal conditions.

    All grapes are hand-picked. The sorting process, which consists of eliminating leaves and substandard grapes accidentally picked, take place on mobile tables in the vineyard, to keep them separate from healthy grapes during their trip to the vat.
  After suitable destalking and pressing (varying according to harvest, varietals and plot), each batch of must is individually fermented using traditional techniques: fermentation temperature, duration, intensity and frequency of pumping over is determined individually.

Wine Blending:

Our blending philosophy At Terra Tangra is combine two objectives of equal importance: quality and uniformity, which means producing the best wine possible for any given vintage and ensuring that exactly the same wine can be found in each bottle produced the year.     The quality of the final blend is more than the sum of all its parts. Some undetectable elements in individual batches will suddenly reveal themselves, triggered by complementary elements in other batches.

Experience has shown that wine improves on blending, without which it could not reach the heights of exceptional quality attain the objective of homogeneity and eonsistency. The owner, cellar master and oenologists meet to taste the wines.


 Lasts about 18 months (varying slightly depending on vintage). It is carried out according to the tradition and is decanted about every three months and clarified with egg white or albumin before the final decanting process.

      Since the beginning, Terra Tangra has been a forerunner in systemizing bottling at the "chateau". This means that we can perform in-depth oenological checks and ensure final blending. Our cork supplier is bound by a quality charter and is subject to certified inspection. Once bottled, the wines are kept for another three months then taken up to check the corks one last time, labeled, packed into cases and shipped.
